Beautiful Wests Patent solitaire button entitled The Duchess Solitaire, with a portrait of the Duchess of Devonshire in high relief. Portrait looks like silver plated on copper, with lots of lovely detail. Detachable stud shank is fixed with a spring mechanism. Backstamped WEST & CO PATENT with the Registration diamond which has a “V” in the right hand segment - indicating the design was registered in 1876. There is also a tiny registration diamond on the bottom edge of the portrait (see last photo). A good collectible example of this attractive image.
