Large passementerie button, probably 18th century. It is worked with gold thread on canvas, in a four-point star design, embellished with green foil backed cabuchons. The cabs are held in place with crossed gold thread, surrounded by a gilt metal collar and a border of gold foil wrapped thread. Fabric is gathered on the back with linen thread. There is also some black thread showing on the back which could probably be removed but I have left as fhound. One of the diamond green cabs and the central one have only one of the cross threads remaining. Otherwise, generally in good vintage condition. A rare and lovely collectable.

Antique oval porcelain button, showing the figure of a shepherd boy among his sheep in a rural landscape. He appears to be blowing bagpipes(?). I think this is a transfer outline with hand painted details. Gilt metal rim. Stud type shank molded all in one piece with the top. A charming small collectable.

Antique, figural enamel, with painted image of a young man seated. He is surrounded by fancy gilt metal rococo border of flowers and scrolls. Gilt metal back and loop shank. Very similar to one sold recently which was backstamped EM Paris, but this one is unmarked. Very pretty collectable

Woven fabric button with metal rim inside, and a linen back. The front has been painted with the crossed flags of Belgium and Great Britain so probably relating to support for Belgium during the first WW. An interesting old button

Vintage coat button made of polished serpentine rock. This is a naturally occurring metamorphic rock and the button was probably made in Cornwall where the rock can be found. It shows the typical mottled scaly appearance, like snakeskin, which is where the rock’s name comes from.

Set of 7 vintage clear glass buttons, molded design with rope-like rim highlighted with gold lustre. Self shank. Slight rubbing to some of the lustre, otherwise generally in good vintage condition. Price is for the set of 7.

Interesting vintage glass buttons. Clear glass cylinder with facetted sides and flat surfaces top and bottom, and discs of rounded red glass attached to the flat surfaces. The cylinder is then turned on its side and has a metal loop shank inserted into the clear glass, secured with a metal collet. Vintage Art Deco style. Price is per button.
