Some of the recently added items are shown below:
Antique enamel buttons depicting two figures in the style of “French Fops”, wearing exaggerated costumes of the late 18th century. Border of facetted cut steels individually rivetted through the base. Flat back and loop shank. The cut steels have lost some of their original sparkle, and the metal backs show signs of discolouration, but I have not attempted to clean them. The enamel is in good condition. Beautiful and rare collectables - price is per button.
Size 1.2” (3.1 cm)
Large vintage/antique picture button with gilt metal image of a troubadour playing a lute, looking up at a castle window. White metal rim and black painted metal back with loop shank. Possibly a theatrical button? Good size and nice crisp image.
Size 1.5” (3.9 cm)
Vintage/antique, large, woven button with a solid cord. The dome shape is wound with black (or very dark brown) cord and then wound with thin dark brown ribbon interwoven on top. Ribbon and cord gathered on the back. No shank, but you would pick up threads from the back to attach to garment.
Size 1.3” (3.3 cm)
Victorian celluloid button with cream celluloid background, pierced by tiny gilt metal trefoil “stick-ups” and overlaid with a pressed and pierced decorative border in gilt metal with traces of silvery finish. Black painted metal back and loop shank.
Size 1.2” (3.1 cm)
Antique mother of pearl button, iridescent smokey brown colour, with incised scrolls and lines, highlighted with gold lustre paint. Flat brass metal back with rounded edge which folds over to form a rim on the front. U-shaped shank. Nice quality.
Size 1.1” (2.8 cm)
Vintage/antique glass ball button, made of dark glass covered in speckled brown and white glass with a smooth finish. Metal loop shank is inserted directly into the glass. Price is per button
Size 7/16” (1.1 cm) excluding shank
Pair of small, antique, gilt metal button, from the “Golden Age”. Different floral designs as shown. One-part construction with flat back and loop shank. Both are back-stamped: C JENNENS, LONDON. Price is for the pair
Size 1/2” (1.2 cm)
Small metal buttons with a green dome in the centre which is probably celluloid. This is surrounded by a pretty pressed metal rim with ridges and floral motifs. Black painted metal back with loop shank. Backstamped: RD. No. 601980. Price is per button
Size 1/2” (1.2 cm)
Antique sporting picture button with well-modelled head of a rabbit (or hare?) peeping out from behind foliage. Image is in high relief, with traces of a silver plated finish, now mostly rubbed off. Flat back and hollow centre. Two air holes on the back and stud type shank. Charming and unusual collectable.
Size 1.1” (2.8 cm)
Tiny paperweight buttons with a blue glass base, covered with a clear glass ball, and a layer of pink and green glass with aventurine forming a pink rose pattern inside the glass. Small metal back plate and loop shank. Price is per button. Very small but very pretty
Size 5/16” (0.8 cm)
Charming, small white glass button decorated with pink roses. I think the pink, green, and gold are inside the white glass, but hard to be 100% sure. The glass is held in a gilt metal wavy rim. Gilt metal back and loop shank. Slight age related wear as shown.
Size 1/2” (1.2 cm)
Set of 7 vintage buttons, pretty shade of apple green, molded in an Art Deco geometric shape. Long narrow shape has two flat angled faces on the front with rounded ends, and a rounded back with sewing hole going crossways through the back. Slight signs of age related wear but mostly in good condition and an attractive set. Price is for the set of 7
Size 1.1” (2.8 cm) long
Large vintage buttons, with five laminated layers of dark brown and cream casein, cut in a diamond shape with slightly rounded sides. Shiny brown top and flat back with metal loop shank. Smart Art Deco geometric design. Price is per button.
Size 2” (5.2 cm) long
Vintage mother of pearl button in two parts. The centre is a shimmering white pearl disc with a roughly carved texture. This is placed on the base which forms a smokey grey rim with natural dark shell back. The back has been polished but still has a cut on one side which I think was part of the original texture, rather than subsequent damage - does not show on the front. Small metal backplate and loop shank.
Size 1.1” (2.7 cm)
Antique beaded button, covered in dark brown fabric on the back, joined to black fabric on the front. The whole is then wound with fine plaited cord, forming a grid and the squares of the grid are embellished with tiny black glass beads. Cord is gathered on the back. No shank but you would pick up threads from the back to attach to garment. Probably once a Victorian mourning button.
Size 15/16” (2.4 cm)
Vintage black glass flower button with molded five-petal cross-hatched flower, highlighted with gold lustre. Plain black glass back and self shank
Size 1” (2.6 cm)
Charming cast silver buttons, with image of two children sitting on a stile, under a parasol, in the style of Kate Greenaway - known as Summer. (Ref BBB Plate 191, p648.15). Hallmarked with the maker’s initials JMB, lion for sterling silver, wheatsheaves for Chester, and date letter either “A” or “B” for 1901 or 1902. Flat back and loop shank. There are 2 others with squashed shanks, listed separately. This is for the 4 in better condition as shown. All would benefit from a gentle clean but I have left as found. Very collectable. Price is per button
