18th century copper alloy

£7.50

Early flat metal button, made of tombac or some kind of metal alloy. Dates to the late 18th or very early 19th century. It has a delicately engraved pattern in the centre, around a circle of incised dots, the whole surface covered in gilding. Flat back and “alpha” type shank. The gilding is wearing off but enough remains to give an idea of how sparkly and wonderful this button once was.

Size 1.2” (3.1 m)
