Fort Dunlop advertising button

£3.50

Vintage advertising button in white metal with painted enamel image of a Dunlop tyre and the Union Jack flag, surrounded by the wording FORT DUNLOP. This was the name of the original tyre factory and main office of Dunlop Rubber, in Birmingham, England, established in 1917 to meet the increase in demand for tyres during the first World War and afterwards to service the growing mother trade. The company eventually declined, due to foreign competition, and was sold in the 1980’s . After remaining derelict for 20 years, the site was redeveloped in the 21st century for industrial, office, and hotel use and still bears the large blue lit sign FORT DUNLOP on its roof. So a very interesting little button with a lot of history behind it!

Size 3/4” (1.9 cm)
