Antique metal button, painted or varnished in black, to give a finish similar to black oriental lacquer so often called “Japanned”. In this example the button has a rounded shape with a rolled rim and the ears of wheat are incised through the paint. One-piece construction with metal shank. Slight paint loss as shown, but does not really detract from charming design.
