Insect on mother of pearl, paste rim (legs broken)
£18.00
Gorgeous 19th century mother of pearl buttons, embellished with a tiny insect, which is rivetted through the base. The insect has two paste stones for body and head, molded metal wings, and brass wire legs. The shimmering mother of pearl base is surrounded by a claw-set paste rim. Bar across the back to which the loop shank is attached. Each insect is lacking some legs, as shown. The pearl would benefit from a gentle clean but the insects are so delicate I have left as found. Despite signs of wear and age, these are unusual and rare collectibles. Price is per button
