Early raised silver over bone back (stained back)
Early raised silver over bone back (stained back)
£17.50
Rare 18th century English silver buttons (unmarked) with a typical scrolly design, and a rim which folds over the bone back. Rounded turret shank with thread groove. From 1739, this type of “raised” button - thin sheet silver with a stamped design over a bone or wood back - was exempt from the expense of hallmarking. So these buttons probably date to the mid-late 18th century. Charming buttons from a bygone era. There are 4 buttons in all, and 2 have ink stains on the back. This listing is for the two shown at the top of photo 3 and in the last photo. Price is per button
