Silver Scaramouche and moon, Birmingham 1903

£25.00

Antique cast silver button, with an unusual design. Someone in historic costume playing a stringed instrument, is looking up, though wavy Art Nouveau style lines, at the man n the moon. Possibly a portrait of the French pantomime figure Scaramouche - though he is more usually found with a crescent moon. Flat back with full English hallmarks: maker’s initials JC & Co Ltd, anchor for Birmingham assay office, lion for sterling silver and date letter “d” for 1901. An unusual collectable.

Size 7/8” (2.2 cm)
