An interesting old silk button. Cream silk over a solid core, with an inner circle covered in fine net. The outside ring, the net circle and the centre are embellished with purl embroidery using thread covered in fine metallic wire. The silk is presumable gathered at the back, though this is not visible as the back is covered by a circle of cream fabric, criss-crossed with fine thread which is beginning to fray. I have left as found. A lovely old button of great character - possibly 18th century but hard to be sure without seeing the back.
